GreenLight Initiative Seeks Accountability, Inclusiveness, Youth Participation in Governance

The GreenLight Initiative, has expressed its readiness to foster collaboration towards meaningful youth participation in governance.

It made its position known during a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission, Hon. Dalhatu Musa Ezekiel, as part of its ongoing project activities supported by LEAP Africa and the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund which aimed at catalyzing youth action for accountability in governance.

The GreenLight Initiative continues its mission to promote accountability and youth empowerment in governance with a recent visit on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 to Honourable Dalhatu Musa Ezekiel, Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission FCT.

During the meeting, Honourable Dalhatu Musa Ezekiel reaffirmed the role of the Public Complaints Commission as a government agency mandated to redress complaints lodged by aggrieved citizens or residents in Nigeria against administrative injustice.

He affirmed that their duty is to serve as the watchdog of government and the conscience of the nation, ensuring that all government agencies uphold their responsibilities and deliver on their promises to the people.

Highlighting the importance of accountability, Honourable Dalhatu underscored the need for youths to play an active role in holding elected leaders accountable. He encouraged young people to engage in thorough scrutiny of their representatives and demand accountability when necessary.

He emphasized that the Public Complaints Commission stands ready to support youths in their efforts to demand transparency and accountability from government officials.

Furthermore, he expressed his commitment to partnering with the GreenLight Initiative in fostering positive change and ensuring that the right thing is done in society. He acknowledged the importance of collaborative efforts between government agencies and civil society organizations to address the challenges facing Nigerian youths and promote good governance.

According to GreenLight Initiative’s Programs and Grant Officer, Stephen Adebayo the visit to the Honorable Commissioner marks a significant step towards strengthening accountability mechanisms and empowering Nigerian youth to actively participate in shaping the nation’s political landscape.

As GreenLight Initiative continues its transformative project, stakeholders, policymakers, and the public are encouraged to support initiatives aimed at cultivating an informed and engaged youth population. Active participation and accountability are essential for preserving democratic ideals and addressing the aspirations of Nigerian youth.
