The Nigeria Railway Corporation has shutdown Igueben-Ekehen Train Station in Edo State till further notice.
The decision followed an attack on the station by suspected herdsmen who abducted over 30 passengers in the process.
The Railway Corporation said due to the incident at the station on Saturday, rains will no longer stop there.
The incident came almost one year after the attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train, resulting in the death of about 14 passengers while 65 others were abducted.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government of Nigeria has described the kidnapping of train passengers at Tom Ikimi Train Station, Igueben, Edo, as despicable and utterly barbaric.
A Transport Ministry statement reassured Nigerians that the security agencies are making efforts to rescue the kidnapped train passengers.
In a related development, One of the suspected kidnappers involved in kidnapping 32 passengers at the Igueben train station has been reportedly arrested by security operatives.
The Edo State Commissioner for Communications and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, made this known during a briefing to journalists in Benin City at the Weekend.
The commissioner added that one victim escaped the kidnapper’s den.
He pledged support for security operatives to avert the recurrence of such incidents in the state.
