Vladimir Petković, manager of French Ligue 1 side Girondins Bordeaux has explained why he continued to snub Nigerian duo Samuel Kalu and Josh Maja despite the struggles of his regulars.
Kalu and Maja, despite not suffering from any injury, were left out of the matchday squad against Lyon on Sunday by Petkovic with the manager relying on his underperforming players.
Bordeaux ended up playing a 2-2 draw to make it their fifth consecutive match without a win and the Les Girondins poor form also means they have only won just two of their last 17 Ligue 1 games and currently sit in 17th position with just 14 points – two points from the bottom table.
Kalu, who is one of the most reliable Super Eagles players, has failed to replicate his form for his club this term and is yet to see out the entirety of a game in France and has recorded just a goal and one assist in 10 league games.
Not impressed by the Nigeria international, the Bosnian manager has left the 24-year-old out of the club’s last three games.
