Niger State Governor, Sani Bello, in an interview with journalists on Monday, said Boko Haram terrorists had taken over a part of his state, hoisting their flag in Kaure village from where they had made incursions into more than 50 villages.
He said Abuja was not safe with Boko Haram’s presence in Niger State.
The governor lamented that over 50 villages, which were overrun by the terrorists and bandits, had been deserted by original inhabitants.
Bello, while describing the situation in the state as critical and pathetic, said over 3,000 villagers escaped to Minna on Sunday night alone, while several others were in camps in Gwada and other places.
Gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday killed seven Internally Displaced Persons(IDP)at the Abagena community housing camp in Makurdi Local Area of Benue State.
The attackers, according to Terhemba Aule who lost a relative, came into the camp at about 2 am and began to shoot sporadically at anyone in sight.
He said at the end of their attack, seven people were killed and several others were wounded.
The bodies of the victims have been deposited at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) while many who sustained injuries are receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, Governor Samuel Ortom who paid a visit to the camp, while addressing angry youth who protested and blocked the Makurdi -Lafia road with the dead bodies, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to live up to his responsibility of protecting Nigerians.
